Sustains Life….. God makes a system like this
Now
days, I am reading Origin of Species written by Charles Darwin. I have just
started it casually but as a student of life sciences I have develop much
interest in his theory of evolution because of his sharp observations which we
usually ignored. Although, I have not completed the book yet but I realized
that it was written to express many hidden beliefs which were disclosed in the
light of logic. It was written at the time when orthodox catholic system was in
power and speaking about science was crime. I am not a critic but one thing we
should keep in mind that you can give logic for any damn thing to prove your
point. It is not always necessary that truth and logic follows the same path. I
am not exaggerating or confusing the readers but my point is that whatever you
are trying to prove with logic is not always correct especially in life
sciences or simply in biology because biology is a science of exception.
Here
I am discussing one of the saying or quote or thought of Charles Darwin. He
said “I cannot persuade myself that a
beneficent and omnipotent God would have designedly created parasitic wasps
with the express intention of their feeding within the living bodies of
Caterpillars”
Drawin was good observer but what he propounded was theory not facts.. |
In a
simple way to understand, he said that merciful (Rahim) God will not create a
thing which will feed on other living body (because it is against human ethics)
or we can see he was denying God by saying this. I believe Darwin gave thinking
in an isolated frame, he just seen caterpillar but overlooks the other life
i.e. wasp (he called it parasite).
This
thing awakens mercy in his heart and he thought this quote. It is human nature
that we cannot see a pain of other life, we are designed like this. It was not
only Darwin but my wife also have same intentions and emotions when she saw a
hunting hyena in Serengeti plains of Africa (on National Geographic Channel) when
he teared out newly born fawn of Thompson gazelle (a deer). She wonders that
why this demon hyena killed that innocent fawn. Then I usually told her that
this fawn was his food he was just having his meal as you have your lunch or
dinner to remain alive.
This
kindness is embossed on human heart which is necessary to keep social fabric
and social life of humans in the society. But what is behind nature which
drives this all. We should start with basics of biology to understand this
stand or thinking of my wife and Darwin.
When
Darwin propound his theory of evolution he didn’t knew about modern biology and
intricate relationship among different form of life. He observe natures
phenomenon and gave his observation along with his assumptions and inferences.
No doubt observations were sharp and to the point but his inferences were not
always applaud able. He didn’t know about food chain and food web which we have
learnt in class 4 of primary school. He also didn’t know about photosynthesis,
genetics and respiration. Modern day biology says that energy in nature always flows
in one direction i.e. from sun to plants to herbivores to carnivores. This flow
of energy maintains life on earth. No step could be skipped in anyway which
means deer can’t take energy from sun directly it always comes to deer through grass
and similarly hyena can’t eat grass to satisfy his hunger he needs deer (in
whatever form it may be either fawn or disabled old deer). This is called food
chain. Every life depends on other life to survive because they need energy for
growth, maintenance and reproduction. This transfer of energy would not like
putting battery cell in a flash light which is clean enough to see light in its
bulb.
Transfer
of energy from one step to another requires wastage of huge amount of energy in
the form of heat dissipation (in thermodynamics we called it spontaneous
process or downhill reaction). Only 10% of the energy would able to transfer
from one step to next step. This assumption is verified by the fact that at
every step the population of particular creature decreases like trees
outnumbers the deer and deer outnumbers the hyenas. It is because they get less
and less energy to get sustain in ecosystem.
Now come
to the point of caterpillar and wasp. Did wasp was doing wrong? What was the
problem in having caterpillar by wasp. It was wasp’s food, God made wasp to
maintain the population of caterpillars otherwise they destroy whole trees by
eating their leaves. With modern scientific knowledge we came to know the
importance of wasp in pollination of flowers.
Wasp
simply took his share of energy to survive for which he was designed and
deployed by nature. It is the same thing what caterpillar did with leaf of
trees. Simply, wasp parasitize caterpillar, caterpillar parasitize leaf and
leaf parasitize sun…for energy and sun burns hydrogen and from where hydrogen
came into existence is still poorly understood by so called developed science, get answer for this question rather than disproving nature’s laws which are set
up by Almighty.
We
should remember life sustains life; this is the rule of nature…
"he just seen caterpillar but overlooks the other life" that sounds like weak attempts to justify such horrible way of life. All these blood and gore you can't just overlook them by looking at how beautiful tiger or a hyena is. You have to see Hyena eating life babies directly from the womb of living pregnant deer. Or the wasp laying eggs. These are plain horror.
ReplyDeleteThere is no justification. In fact Muslims way of justifications are heavily contradicting, every time I saw some one trying to justify something through Islam, they contradict themselves while trying to justify something else. They seems to be completely unaware of these contradictions.
And of course it's easy to talk about broader picture or the beauty of life while Hyena is not eating your innards. Or you are not the caterpillar.
